A Bond of Venom and Magic
by Karen Tomlinson
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: October 14th 2016
For Diamond Gillon the war raging in the south seems a remote danger until her home is brutally attacked. Having lost everything she holds dear, Diamond is catapulted into a terrifying new world in which legendary beasts arise, magic is condemned and half blood fae, like her, have no rights. Despite her growing feelings for her saviour, Commander Hugo Casimir, he remains a paradox – not only is he a heartless killer, he is owned by the cruel immortal fae queen; a queen who will murder her own people for magic.
As Diamond’s circumstances become ever more perilous she is drawn deeper into Hugo’s world and discovers the lengths to which he will go to save what he holds dear. Will Hugo become her friend, her protector, or – an enemy not worthy of her trust?
A Bond of Venom and Magic is a tale of two people bound by magic and secrets, but trapped in the complexities of love and betrayal. It is the beginning of an epic journey, one that will test Diamond’s resolve and determination to battle an evil that threatens not only her world but that of Eternity, the land of The Guardians and The Goddess.
What are your favorite myths and how did they influenced the story:
Hard to answer this as the story is purely from my head and not influenced by legends. I love all myth and legends but I find learning about ancient societies like Egyptians and Aztecs and those even before that time period even more fascinating!
Would you rather be a wizard or a Ninja?
ooh, can’t I be greedy and be a power ninja wizard…?
Are there any authors you would recommend to fans of your books, possibly that you love yourself?
Oh yes! SJ Maas has become my favourite author over the past few years! I was blown away when a reader was trying to decide if ABOVAM or A Court of Mist and Fury was her favourite read of the year! Elise Kova- Air awakens series is really good if you like elemental magic. I also loved Ann McCaffery’s Dragon Riders of Pern when I read them as a teenager and Kate Sparkes Bound Triology I have recently enjoyed.
Dogs or cats or birds or rabbits or…?
Dogs every time!
Over the Rainbow. I sing it to my girls and love the different renditions of it, particularly by Eva Cassidy and Isreal Kamakawiwo ole.
French Fries or Tater Tots:
Don’t know what Tater Tots are so Fries!!
Crayons or markers?
Markers! crayons are such a pain. They break! Although I suppose markers run out…hmm.
Favorite line from a movie?
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” .Gone with the Wind. Makes me smile every time I hear it. The over acting and dramatics of films of that era always make me either smile or cringe.
Finish this statement: Once, just to attract attention, I…did the splits in a pub when I had too much to drink..oops! Thankfully my clothes were stretchy and didn’t split!!
What punctuation mark best describes your personality? Why?
Ha! Ha! An exclamation mark!!! Because I am not averse to saying what I think. I am a big softee really though…:)
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes and No. I believe in instant attraction that can exist for a long while, but for me, love is something far deeper that develops as you get to know someone and accept them for who they are.
Does Prince Charming exist?
*chuckles* do you mean the smarmy charming prince or the utterly perfect devastating one? And, errm, no not really. I believe Mr Smarmy would have some good points somewhere that we could uncover, and Mr Devastating would definitely have a few faults to deal with.
List five adjectives to describe yourself.
Determined. Kind. Tired. Nervous (about ABOVAM release) and Happy ( that I’ve achieved writing and publishing a book)
What strange or quirky writing habits do you have?
I chew the skin off the inside of my mouth when I’m thinking. (Very bad habit!)
Would you rather have no internet or no cell phone?
No internet. I can at least take photos with my phone!
Because I read whatever I could get my hands on back then, I now have an eclectic taste in books and will read anything that catches my eye. I absolutely love illustrated book covers!
In my late teens I discovered fantasy and that has stayed my firm favourite. I am and will always remain a complete sucker for a fantasy with kick ass characters, and worlds steeped in magic and romance!
