Bring Me Their Hearts
by Sara Wolf
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: June 5th 2018
Entangled Teen

Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera’s heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him—every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him—until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

Mama Says:
I admit, I’ve been a bit disappointed by YA Fantasy this year, but wanted to give this book a try thanks to the rad cover and fangirls coming out of the woodwork after reading their arcs.  Que the happy dance when I enjoyed the heck outta this read!
It was fast, fun, fierce and at times absolutely hilarious.  I love a good dark sense of humor, y’all.  And a beautiful creature who eats hearts- icing on the cake.
If you are tired of ya fantasy that takes itself too seriously and can’t take a joke, I think you’ll appreciate Bring Me Their Hearts~

4 stars and my sincere thanks to Entangled Teen and YA Book Tours for the review opportunity!

For fans of Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen, My Lullaby of You is a Young Adult Contemporary Romance about guarded love, complicated families, and the summer that changes everything.

It’s the summer after high school. Amy can’t wait to leave her small hometown in North Carolina for the vibrant city of Chicago, where she plans to go to her dream college and hopes to build a stronger relationship with her father.

But as she deals with her mother’s resentment over her leaving and an intriguing yet provoking college student, Amy’s reminded of things she’s tried to forget and forced to face emotions she never expected.

It’s the summer before the last year of music school. Seth would rather be anywhere else than a small beach town in North Carolina, reopening wounds he thought he’d patched long ago and facing the father he hasn’t seen since his mother’s death.

While on his mission for answers, Seth is drawn to an observant and driven local he can’t seem to figure out.

For this fun and flirty book with a hefty dose of soul searching, I wanted to go with mostly folky tunes, and a bit of pick up with some electro-indie.  Find my list on Spotify below!

Thrust into a world she never knew existed, Kayel must help Lathan find the murderer and stop the impending war, all while fighting her attraction for the undead man she loves to hate. If she can’t learn their ways and figure out who killed Marco, then she may lose more than just her life … She may spark a war that would spell disaster for vampires and humans alike.
Mama Says:
Well that was… intense.  I love a good uf/pnr mix.  Really, I think it’s one of my top three favorite genres.  Often it’s just total brain candy, but this one was whip-smart and had me absolutely glued to my Kindle.
If you like sassy, strong lady leads and vampires, you definitely want to pick this one up.
There’s some tropes that we see all the time, sure, but they’re played out a bit differently.  Honestly the sarcasm always wins me over too.  And it’s here in spades.
Emily Cyr will definitely get me to read more of her books if they’re all this hilarious and sexy and just downright fun!
4 stars and my sincere thanks for the review opportunity!
Emily Cyr is a stay-at-home mom turned writer. She holds a degree in middle grades education with certification in English and social science. She has always had a love of all things paranormal and fantasy, but it wasn’t until Emily’s husband said the words, “Why not?” that she considered putting her thoughts and ideas into the book, The Lightning Prophecy. This trilogy was just the start for Emily. It seemed to open a creative door that had been locked.
Emily has always been an avid reader. Through reading came her love of writing. The more she read, the more she knew she wanted to create her own world. Many of her first works were fan fiction.
Emily and her family currently reside in San Antonio, Texas. She has an incredibly supportive husband, who is also an officer in the United States Air Force. They have three sons, ages 6, 5, and 2. Somehow, even with the demands of being a parent to three little boys, she finds time to escape to her fantasies and write them down.
Currently, Emily has two urban fantasy series out, but stay tuned via her web-site,, for more!

Book Title: Bitten by Alan Moore
Category: Adult Fiction, 430 pages
Genre: Thriller
Publisher: Self-published
Release date: February 7, 2018
Tour dates: June 4 to 22, 2018
Content Rating: R (Book contains profanities, intermittent sex and violence, incl. one violent sex episode, together with scenes of explicit disaster, distress and death)

Book Description:

In the not-too-distant future, Italy is in disarray. It has voted to leave the EU in an attempt to regain control of its laws, finances and commerce. Even so, the country’s economy is shrinking and its national debt rising. There is a marked escalation, too, in unemployment, bank loans and immigration. Production and service companies are in difficulty. The only thriving business areas are the black market and organised crime. There is discontent and protest on all sides.

In Florence, the local Mafia boss, more accustomed to gunrunning and trading in plutonium, is involved in organising a silent auction for the sale of one of the world’s most valuable lost paintings – a sixteenth-century masterpiece, which was appropriated in World War II by Stalin’s Trophy Brigade. A British art expert is set to buy the picture on behalf of his client, a South American billionaire – yet surprisingly two Italian undercover intelligence agents, acting as antique dealers, submit the winning bid.

All the while, human beings continue to harm the Earth by destroying land, sea, air, animals and trees. Global climate change, polluting the atmosphere, depleting the ozone layer: these are some of man’s crimes against Nature. But time is running out. Nature has lost patience with humans. Unless something is done immediately to reverse the destruction of the ecosystem, Nature will retaliate by deploying the terrifying forces at her command. And as a first step in wreaking her revenge, she instigates a reign of terror by the deadliest creature on Earth.

Mama Says:
As you might have gathered from the synopsis, Bitten is a very politically and socially conscious piece of speculative fiction.  I never felt like the author tried to hard to push a certain agenda, making this book a much better experience.  I just despise being preached at, especially in fiction.
Rather fast paced, even with all the information provided, Bitten takes the reader on a fascinating and tumultuous journey that forces you to examine the “what ifs” of our destructive tendencies and blase attitude towards our effect on the planet.
Though the story was utterly engrossing, I didn’t find quite as much character development as I would have hoped for, thus the book comes across as a bit dry at times.  If you’re someone looking for a deep emotional connection, this might not be the book for you.  However, if you rather enjoy a book that grabs you and keeps you reading to find out what happens, you’ll definitely want to read Bitten.
Fans of Michael Crichton and T.C. Boyle may very well find a new favorite author in Mr. Alan Moore!

Meet the Author:

Born in Surbiton, Surrey in 1944, Alan Moore lives in Barnes, SW London, with his wife, Amber. They have two daughters and a son, who between them have two boys and two girls with another boy expected in May. Alan was educated at Oundle School in Northamptonshire and at London University, where, as an external student, he obtained a BA degree in English. Thereafter, for 25 years, he single-handedly ran his own book publishing company, which at one stage was producing up to 20 titles a year. Now, at the age of 74, he has self-published his first novel.
Learn more about Bitten and the author in our exclusive interview! Thanks to Mr. Moore for his time and answers.
What was your research process like for Bitten?

I did a lot of research.  I read or consulted at least five major entomological studies on the mosquito.  I also read a considerable amount on the process of authenticating Old Master paintings.

How did you decide to self-publish vs. going through the traditional route? What are the benefits? The challenges?

I decided to self-publish Bitten in order to save time and anguish. As a former book publisher, I know how long it takes for agents to decide whether they want to represent your book or not (you have to have an agent if you want to approach any of the major publishing houses).  Then, if you do manage to find an agent and he offers your book to the publishing house he has the most fruitful relationship with, it takes at least three to four months for them to decide whether they’re interested.  And if they are, it then takes another five to six months to produce the book.  With the assistance of Kindle Direct Publishing, I published Bitten, from typescript to finished book, in under four months!

Who would you say influenced you the most, professionally speaking?

As a writer, I’ve not been influenced professionally.  There are certain authors I admire – Robert Harris, for example – who I’m sure have had a subconscious effect on my style and approach. But I’ve not sought professional advice on how to write.

If you could retell a favorite character’s story, which character would you choose?

It would have to be Napoleon, who has been the subject of over 300,000 books.  My aim would be to bring a personal slant and a new approach to his life-story.

Can you tell us what you’re working on now?

I’m working on a semi-autobiographical novel.  Among other things, it will feature some of the many interesting people I’ve met, also some of the extraordinary things I’ve done.  More disturbingly, it will include my dreadful experiences as a pupil (from the ages of 7 to 12) at a prep boarding school, where the headmaster was a sadistic paedophile and his wife a cruel vindictive bitch.

Burning Bright (Going Down in Flames #5)

by Chris Cannon
Publication Date: June 4, 2018

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Bryn is back for her senior year at the Institute for Excellence, also known as shape-shifting dragon school. She isn’t sure which is scarier, the life-force sucking dragons stalking campus or the fact that she’s officially betrothed to Jaxon, a guy who will never love her. Not that she could ever love him, either… That’s just ridiculous.

Senior year should be fun. Her parents are alive, she’s finally fitting in, and she’s learning how to be a Medic. But what’s with Jaxon giving her strange looks? He runs hot and cold, and he doesn’t even have the excuse of being a hybrid fire-and-ice-breathing dragon like her. One minute they’re having a great time and the next, she wants to blast a fireball at his head. The marriage contract of doom looms over them–unless this match not made in heaven kindles a flame…

Mama Says:
I need to start on a bit of a soap box, if you’ll permit.  I don’t think it’s fair to lower your rating of a book just because the author doesn’t end things the way you want them to.  Ahem.  It’s completely unrelated to the quality of the writing, it’s purely your own personal preference and while it’s absolutely fine to note said preference, you shouldn’t factor that into your rating.

Ok, now that we’ve addressed that bit, let’s get to the good stuff.  Like the fact that I legitimately couldn’t stop reading this book once I started.  It’s not super long to begin with, but I absolutely HAD TO KNOW how things were going to end, and I was kept in suspense quite a bit.  Even though I definitely inferred some things, I didn’t feel like the entire book was wholly predictable.  Plus, Chris Cannon’s dialogue is often so hilarious and snarky that even if I do know exactly what’s going to happen, I’m along for the ride and enjoying it none the less.

Bryn has grown so much from the first book, and we got a little more Clint and Ivy time, though personally, I’d love to see some spinoff books around them and their clans!  Jaxon was a tool as usual, but he has also grown, and without spoiling anything, he surprised me a few times in this one!

Overall, this is definitely a binge-worthy series, and one I’d recommend to young adult fans, dragon lovers, and kick ass lady lovers alike!

Mama Says:

Color me surprised and exhausted from staying up too late reading again.
Occasionally, I’ll have certain expectations for a book that just get blown out of the water.  While I did think I would enjoy this book, I didn’t know that I would be so emotionally involved and engrossed in the story that I would lose sleep.  Not just from staying up late, but also from the extreme feels that lingered long after I finally put the book down.
The Widow’s Watcher reads like both Nordic Noir and Literary Fiction, with some excellent examples of how horribly we can deal with grief sometimes, as well as some better options.   When a book is powerful but flies under the radar, I feel like it’s my duty as a reviewer to yell about it to everyone, so expect to hear about this book in future rec posts and top reads lists!
Even though I did figure out a major, um, thing, fairly quickly, it in no way took away from my enjoyment.  It’s not one of those plot twists that if you know it, ruins the story (hello Secret Window) but rather something that you might know before the characters do, so you’re just yelling at them “HEYYYYYYYYY LOOOK THEY ARE BLAH AND THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH”
I highly recommend setting aside ample time once you sit down to read this one so you don’t wind up like a zombie.  No it’s not about those, you’ll just not get rest and if you’re out of coffee, I fear for your family/housemates.

4.5 stars and my sincere thanks to Lake Union, Eliza Maxwell and TLC Book tours for the review opportunity!

When photojournalist Peter St John returns home after a two-year absence, the life he’s been running from catches up. For years his mother’s presence, coupled with Pete’s own psychic gift, has triggered visits to 1917. There, he relives battles of the Great War, captures the heyday of Coney Island on canvas, and falls in love with an enchanting and enigmatic songstress named Esme. Present-day Pete still pines for Esme, and his love endures…but so does his vivid memory of killing her.

When he discovers family heirlooms that serve as proof of his crimes, Pete will have to finally confront his former life. “Enthralling and imaginative, where the past intertwines with the present, Spinella masterfully delivers in the third and final installment of her Ghost Gifts trilogy. Echo Moon is filled with suspense, mystery, and romance, and kept me turning the pages and on my toes until the very end, an ending I didn’t see coming. I love unexpected twists! Fans, new and old, as Echo Moon can easily stand on its own, will devour Peter St John’s story. I sure did.” —Kerry Lonsdale, Wall Street Journalbestselling author of Everything We Keep

Mama Says- with an important note:
While this is book 3 in a series, each is technically a standalone book and I did not feel too confused or like I was missing anything having not read the first two books, however, if you prefer to read a series in order no matter what, visit the author’s website for more information on Ghost Gifts!

Sometimes, I forget how much I love a damn good mystery.  Especially one that is all wrapped up in family history.  Echo Moon is one such riveting tale, sprinkled with bits of such haunting, melodic prose that I was utterly engrossed.

Although not your typical page-turner, I read this rather quickly for its size, and I must say that you will most likely not want to read it at bedtime if you do actually want to sleep and not read “one more chapter” ahem, aka finish the thing.

While some people grab light romances for their beach bag, others want something that will chill them to fend off the heat, and something they can sit on a towel with and not be bothered to come up for air.  If you’re the latter, pick up Echo Moon!
